Truro crematorium's carols support hospice charity

Published by in English ·

A carol service held at Truro’s Penmount Crematorium raised over £300 for a leading Cornish charity.

Throughout 2010 staff at the crematorium have held events to raise funds for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Each year they hold a carol service, on the second Thursday of December, and this year was no exception.

Pastor Mike Ely was supported by Ruth Kerkin and John Sherriff, organists who regularly play at Penmount, along with the Kelsey Singers. There were also readings and singing by staff and their family members.

Susan Cannan, bereavement services manager at Penmount, said: “The carol service was led this year, as in many previous years, by Pastor Mike Ely in his own inimitable fashion. We were also honoured to have a past member of staff, Roger Bowden, return in order to once again be part of the service when he did a reading.

“This year, for the first time, Santa made an appearance, although he does have a day job at the crematorium every day of the year apart from Christmas Eve.

“A good time was had by everybody and best of all £300 was raised on the night towards funds previously collected for Cornwall Hospice Care.”

The charity has been crematorium staff’s charity of choice to support over the last 12 months.

Other fundraising events have included Penmount’s annual open day on the last Sunday in June, donations collected during from the Memory Christmas Tree cards in the Flower Room and money collected from the metals recycling programme run throughout the year.

Next yera Penmount will be supporting the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.
