COUNCIL chiefs have applied for planning permission for an extension to Wearside’s crematorium.
Sunderland City Council’s City Services department wants to built a single-story extension to the back of the existing building in the Bishopwearmouth Cemetery grounds.
There would also be a new flat roof with a parapet wall over an existing open yard area, and an airblast cooling unit would be installed in the roof of the building.
No objections have been received and planners say the development would not have a detrimental impact on the cemetery.
The proposals are recommended to be approved when plans are put before councillors. The decision-making meeting takes place on Tuesday January 4 at 4.45pm in committee room two, Sunderland Civic Centre.
