A CONTROVERSIAL application for a crematorium to be built at West Grinstead has been refused by a Horsham District Council planning committee.
Members of the development control south committee heard at their meeting on Tuesday about the plans which proposed establishing a crematorium off the A272 Cowfold Road.
Six people spoke for and against the development, with those opposed to the plans highlighting similar issues including concerns over traffic and if there was a need for one to be built in the countryside.

Many members, including Roger Arthur (Con, Chantonbury), spoke about the need for a crematorium. They suggested that while it might not be required now, there could a need in the future.
